Kids across the globe gave Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs a huge welcome, helping it break the box-office record for an animation movie. And in America, adults gave a friendly welcome the Johnny Depp-Christian Bale true-life gangster drama Public Enemies, proving that serious dramas can indeed co-exist and prosper with hit fantasy thrillers released in summer.The new Ice Age film opened in America on Wednesday to have a jump start on July 4 holiday weekend. It opened immediately in every continent, grossed worldwide $215 million.

Producer and distributor Fox said the movie broke records in major markets, especially in Russia and Brazil . In India, too, Fox said the film had done remarkable business. With a cost of $90 million (with another $90 million for prints and marketing), the movie has recouped its basic cost in just about five days. Only a handful of films in a year achieve that status. During the first week run of major, star-driven films, the producer and distributor get about 60 percent of the total box-office gross.Though the film popularly called Ice Age 3 has done pretty well in North America grossing $67 million in five days, its business outside North America is nothing short of being phenomenal. About 30 percent of the theaters are showing it in 3D.

James Brennan (Jesse Eisenberg) can't find a job when he returns home to Pittsburgh. With no other options, he takes a low paying gig running games at Adventureland. He makes fast friends with the rather nihilistic Joel (Martin Starr), who has all the intelligence James possesses, but probably not the motivation. His bosses, Bobby and Paulette (Bill Hader and Kristen Wiig), are completely oblivious to, well, everything.

All the Adventureland employees are starstruck by Mike (Ryan Reynolds), but not because he can fix all the rides. Mike is a musician who claims to have shared a stage with Lou Reed. Perhaps no one is as starstruck as Em Lewin (Kristen Stewart), and James is equally in awe of her. You can tell by the way he acts like Woody Allen whenever she's around.The basic complications of Adventureland are of the he-loves-her-she-loves-the-other-guy variety.

One of the most highly awaited films of the year, X-Men Origins Wolverine comes short of pleasing especially those who’ve loved the first two films in the series. As the title suggests, the latest of the X-Men instalments is a prequel to Bryan Singer’s X-Men (2000) thus showcasing the back-story of its most popular mutant Wolverine.

The film is a story of how the man Jack Logan became a steely clawed mutant Wolverine. The film begins in 1845 when Jack Logan in his early childhood realizes he possesses retractable claws made of bone that emerges from in between his knuckles when angered. Logan and his half brother Victor Creed (Liev Schreiber, impressive) who too possesses claws which emerge from his nails, thus decide to use their power to fight in America’s umpteen wars as they grow up. Their special powers don’t go unnoticed as General Stryker' (Danny Huston) offers them to join his special force of Mutants in order to fight the bad guys. The two brothers join the group but their differing moral values results in their fall-out.

Audiences aren't buying into dramas right now. Comedies, comic book-inspired films, action movies, teen films...those are getting the attention of moviegoers. Anything that makes us forget about what's happening in our world and gets us caught up in a total fantasy experience for a couple of hours is doing well at the box office.

Director Joe Wright chose The Soloist as his first American film after having earned high praise for his work helming Pride and Prejudice and Atonement. And Wright appears to have been the right choice for this tricky film. He handles the scenes of homeless people and the mentally ill living hard lives on the streets without sugar-coating his subject matter. Wright's made an honest, unflinching film that's uncomfortable to watch at times, a pure joy to behold at others, and overall as faithful to its source material as possible while still being cinematically entertaining. I'm hoping audiences will give it a chance, despite the bad release date and somber subject matter.

Two days before his wedding, Doug and his three buddies drive to Vegas for a blow-out night they'll never forget. But when the three groomsmen wake up the next morning with pounding headaches, they can't remember a thing. Their posh hotel suite is beyond trashed and the groom is nowhere to be found. The ghostly boy Matt has been seeing is that of Jonah, the clairvoyant son of the former funeral home owner, who acts as a gateway for the dead to cross over into the realm of the living.
